Target intelligence / Profile preview
Voltage dependent anion channel 1 pseudogene 2 (VDAC1P2) is a non-functional genomic sequence similar to the protein-coding gene for voltage-dependent anion channel 1 (VDAC1). While the canonical VDAC1 protein forms an important mitochondrial outer membrane channel implicated in cellular energy metabolism, apoptosis, and disease, the pseudogene VDAC1P2 does not produce a functional protein and is therefore not considered a therapeutic or biological target. VDAC1P2 may exist due to gene duplication or retrotransposition events during evolution, but current evidence does not support an active biological role or relevance to therapy.
