Voltage dependent anion channel 1 pseudogene 5 (VDAC1P5) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome that is related by sequence to the functional VDAC1 gene. VDAC1 encodes a mitochondrial outer membrane protein involved in anion and metabolite exchange, apoptosis, and cellular metabolism[1][4]. In contrast, VDAC1P5 has no coding capacity and is not translated into a functional protein. Some VDAC1 pseudogenes can be transcribed and may play roles in gene regulation or act as competing endogenous RNAs in specific tissues or disease models, but VDAC1P5 is not documented to have such activity[2]. Therefore, VDAC1P5 is not a direct target for drugs and has no documented role in human disease or physiology.
