Target intelligence / Profile preview

Voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 2 (VDAC2)

Target
VDAC2
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Porin, Voltage-gated channel
01

Overview

VDAC2 is a voltage-gated ion channel located in the outer mitochondrial membrane. It regulates metabolite exchange between mitochondria and cytosol, participates in apoptosis regulation through interactions with BCL-2 family proteins like BAK, and is involved in calcium homeostasis. It also acts as a binding site for kinases and plays roles in cardiac contraction, pulmonary circulation, spermatogenesis, and immune response. Dysregulation can contribute to cardiopulmonary diseases or altered immune responses.
