Voltage-dependent anion-selective channel protein 3 (VDAC3) is a pore-forming protein located in the outer mitochondrial membrane. It functions as an ion channel with mild preference for anions over cations and plays roles in sperm flagella/centriole assembly, mitochondrial quality control (via mitophagy), and may act as a sensor for oxidative stress. Mutations or dysregulation of VDAC3 have been associated with male infertility and neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.
