Target intelligence / Profile preview
The voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel is a high-voltage-activated ion channel that mediates the influx of Ca\(^{2+}\) ions into excitable cells, such as cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle cells. This influx is crucial for processes including muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, cell division, and cell death. The L-type channel is especially important in excitation-contraction coupling in muscles and plays a key role in cardiac action potentials.
