Voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1D (Cav1.3)

Target
Cav1.3
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated Calcium Channel, L-Type Calcium Channel
01

Overview

The voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1D, also known as Cav1.3, is a pore-forming subunit of the L-type, voltage-gated calcium channel family. It mediates the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells and plays a crucial role in various physiological processes including muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, cell division, and cell death. Mutations or dysfunctions have been linked to disorders such as familial sinus node dysfunction and focal idiopathic epilepsy; there may also be associations with autism spectrum disorder or primary aldosteronism.
