Target intelligence / Profile preview

Voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1S (Cav1.1)

Target
Cav1.1
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel
01

Overview

The voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1S (Cav1.1 / CACNA1S) is a pore-forming subunit of the L-type voltage-gated calcium channel complex predominantly found in skeletal muscle. It is essential for excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle fibers. Mutations or dysfunctions are linked to hypokalemic periodic paralysis, thyrotoxic periodic paralysis and malignant hyperthermia susceptibility.
