The voltage-dependent N-type calcium channel (CaV2.2) is a high-voltage-activated calcium channel primarily found in neurons and neuroendocrine cells. It plays a crucial role in neurotransmitter release at presynaptic terminals and is involved in pain pathways, synaptic transmission, and other calcium-dependent cellular processes. The channel is formed by the α1B subunit and modulated by auxiliary subunits. Selective blockers like ω-conotoxins are used for pain management targeting these channels.
