Target intelligence / Profile preview
The CACNA1B gene encodes the alpha-1B subunit of the voltage-dependent N-type calcium channel (Cav2.2), a key component for calcium ion entry into excitable cells like neurons. This channel plays a critical role in synaptic transmission, hormone secretion, and other calcium-dependent processes. Dysregulation or mutations in CACNA1B are implicated in various neurological disorders including epileptic encephalopathies and neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as cancer.
