Overview

The α1G subunit, encoded by the CACNA1G gene, forms the pore of the Cav3.1 T-type calcium channel. These channels are low-voltage activated and mediate transient calcium influx, playing a crucial role in neuronal pacemaking, thalamocortical oscillations, and regulation of slow-wave sleep. They are therapeutic targets for anti-seizure medications, particularly in absence epilepsy.
