Voltage-dependent T-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1I (CaV3.3)

Target
CaV3.3
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel, T-type calcium channel
01

Overview

The voltage-dependent T-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1I is the pore-forming α1 subunit of a voltage-gated calcium channel, specifically the CaV3.3 type. It mediates low-voltage activated (LVA) or "T-type" calcium currents, which are characterized by their activation at relatively negative membrane potentials and rapid inactivation kinetics. It plays a role in pacemaking activity in central neurons and cardiac nodal cells, modulation of neuronal firing patterns, calcium signaling in secretory cells and vascular smooth muscle, and cell growth processes.
