Overview

Voltage-gated potassium channel subfamily H member 2 (KCNH2), also known as hERG (human Ether-à-go-go-Related Gene) or Kv11.1, is a pore-forming (alpha) subunit of a voltage-gated inwardly rectifying potassium channel. It plays a critical role in repolarizing the cardiac action potential, and dysfunction is associated with Long QT Syndrome type 2 (LQT2). Recent studies also indicate its involvement in regulating incretin hormone secretion in gut epithelial cells, suggesting potential therapeutic applications in diabetes and obesity management.
