Voltage-Gated Sodium Channel Protein Type II Alpha Subunit (Nav1.2)

Target
Nav1.2
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated ion channel
01

Overview

The voltage-gated sodium channel protein type II alpha subunit, commonly abbreviated as Nav1.2, is a critical membrane protein in humans encoded by the SCN2A gene. It forms the core of a voltage-gated sodium channel complex that is essential for the initiation and propagation of action potentials in neurons. Mutations or dysfunctions in SCN2A/Nav1.2 are associated with several neurological disorders. Nav channels are targets for various drugs including local anesthetics, anticonvulsants, antiarrhythmics, as well as toxins from marine organisms that affect gating or conductance properties.
