Voltage-Gated T-type Calcium Channel (CaV3)

Target
CaV3
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Voltage-gated calcium channel
01

Overview

The voltage-gated T-type calcium channel is a member of the voltage-gated calcium channel (VGCC) family, specifically the CaV3 subfamily. These channels are low-voltage-activated, opening in response to small depolarizations. They mediate calcium influx, influencing neuronal firing patterns, hormone secretion, and pacemaking activity in the heart. Subtypes include CaV3.1 (CACNA1G), CaV3.2 (CACNA1H), and CaV3.3 (CACNA1I). Dysregulation is implicated in epilepsy, pain, arrhythmias, and other conditions. They are characterized by low activation threshold, small conductance, and rapid kinetics.
