It is related in sequence to the vomeronasal 1 receptor family, which in other species detects pheromonal signals as part of the olfactory system; however, in humans, VN1R104P contains disabling mutations and is considered non-functional[1][7]. There are no drugs known to interact with this locus, and it is not included in GWAS or pharmacological studies[7][9].
