Vomeronasal 1 receptor 108 pseudogene (VN1R108P) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene of the type 1 vomeronasal receptor family[7][5][9][3]. The gene does not encode a functional receptor protein, and its transcript (if expressed) is presumed non-coding or non-functional. Vomeronasal receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors in other mammals that mediate pheromone detection, but the human genome contains numerous pseudogenes in this family, including VN1R108P, reflecting an evolutionary loss of function[3]. VN1R108P is located on chromosome 20p11.1[7][3]. There is no known biological, therapeutic, or biomarker role for VN1R108P, and it is not a drug target. Some genome-wide studies have annotated its locus in association analyses, but no direct disease association or mechanistic function is established for this gene in humans[4][2].
