The VN1R18P gene is a member of the vomeronasal 1 receptor family in humans, located on chromosome 2p16.3. It is defined as a pseudogene, meaning it is a gene remnant that does not encode a functional protein. The active vomeronasal 1 receptor family in mammals mediates pheromone detection through G protein-coupled receptor mechanisms in the vomeronasal organ, but in humans, most members, including VN1R18P, have become pseudogenes and lost their coding ability. VN1R18P does not play a role in recognized biological processes, diseases, or drug interactions, and is not considered a therapeutic target.
