VN1R28P (vomeronasal 1 receptor 28 pseudogene) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene of the vomeronasal 1 receptor family, found on the human genome. In mammals, functional vomeronasal 1 receptors (V1Rs) are part of the chemosensory system in the vomeronasal organ, involved in pheromone detection and social communication; however, in humans, most V1R gene family members (including VN1R28P) have become pseudogenes—sequences derived from once-functional genes but no longer capable of encoding a functional protein. VN1R28P does not contribute to any known biological function, disease mechanism, or therapeutic application in humans.
