Overview

VN1R30P is a human pseudogene that belongs to the vomeronasal 1 receptor (V1R) gene family, a group of G protein-coupled receptors originally responsible for pheromone detection in vertebrates. In humans, most V1R genes, including VN1R30P, are pseudogenized, meaning they do not code for a functional protein. Vomeronasal 1 receptors are intact and functional in many other mammals and play a role in olfactory signaling pathways related to social and reproductive behaviors. In humans and higher primates, this gene family has undergone substantial pseudogenization, likely because the vomeronasal system is vestigial and no longer serves an essential sensory or behavioral function. VN1R30P is not implicated in human disease, drug response, or as a therapeutic target.
