Vomeronasal 1 receptor 31 pseudogene (VN1R31P) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[3][5][7]. It is related by sequence to the vomeronasal 1 receptor family, which are class A (rhodopsin-like) G protein-coupled receptors involved in pheromone detection in many species. However, as VN1R31P is a pseudogene, it contains sequence features that render it nonfunctional and it is not believed to encode an active or functional receptor protein in humans[3][7]. Pseudogenes such as VN1R31P are generally not involved in therapeutic targeting, biological functions, drug interactions, biomarker roles, or disease associations, but may be of interest for comparative genomics and evolutionary studies[3][7].
