Overview

The vomeronasal 1 receptor 35 pseudogene (VN1R35P) is a non-functional genetic element in humans, annotated as a pseudogene rather than a protein-coding gene[5][6][7]. Its evolutionary ancestors belong to the vomeronasal type-1 receptor genes, which are part of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily involved in pheromone detection in other species[8]. However, pseudogenization of many vomeronasal receptor genes, including VN1R35P, has occurred in primates, resulting in nonfunctional remnants due to relaxed evolutionary selection and high rates of non-synonymous mutations[8]. This pseudogene does not produce a receptor protein and has no known physiological or disease implication in humans.
