Vomeronasal 1 receptor 4 pseudogene (VN1R4 pseudogene)

Target
VN1R4 pseudogene
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Vomeronasal receptor family (non-functional form)
01

Overview

The vomeronasal 1 receptor 4 pseudogene is a defective copy of a gene from the vomeronasal receptor family and is present in the human genome as a nonfunctional segment of DNA that resembles protein-coding vomeronasal receptor genes. Pseudogenes like VN1R4 are generated by processes such as gene duplication with subsequent mutations or retrotransposition of mRNA. They do not produce functional receptor proteins and typically do not play active roles in human physiology, disease, or therapeutic targeting. Human vomeronasal receptors as functional entities are largely lost or pseudogenized, and VN1R4 pseudogene exemplifies this loss of function.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable.

03

Biological functions

Most pseudogenes have no functional role in cellular processes. A minority may participate in gene regulation via RNA-mediated effects but there is no evidence for this specific pseudogene.
04

Disease associations

There are no known direct disease associations or roles for this pseudogene. Pseudogenes in general may influence gene regulation, but this is not documented for VN1R4 pseudogene.
