Overview

Vomeronasal 1 receptor 51 pseudogene (VN1R51P) is a processed pseudogene found on chromosome 9 in humans[5]. It is a member of the large family of vomeronasal 1 receptor genes, which in other vertebrates are G protein-coupled receptors responsible for pheromone recognition within the vomeronasal organ[7]. In humans, VN1R51P bears homology to this family but is non-functional due to sequence disruptions and does not yield a protein[1][3][5][9]. As such, it does not participate in biological processes, does not serve as a therapeutic or diagnostic target, and is of limited biological significance except for evolutionary studies.
