Overview

Vomeronasal 1 receptor 6, pseudogene (VN1R6P) is a non-functional member of the vomeronasal type-1 receptor (V1R) family in humans. V1Rs are a subclass of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) typically associated with pheromone recognition in the vomeronasal organ (VNO) of non-primate mammals[1][2]. In humans, nearly all V1R genes are pseudogenes, meaning they have lost the ability to encode functional receptor proteins[1][2]. The VNO is largely atrophied or absent in adult humans, and any V1R pseudogenes present, including VN1R6P, are not known to contribute to any biological or disease processes, and there are no drugs targeting this gene. Their presence reflects evolutionary ancestry rather than current biological function in humans[1][2][3].
