The V1R family encodes chemosensory G protein-coupled receptors expressed in the vomeronasal organ of mammals, which are involved in pheromone detection and social chemical communication[6]. However, VN1R65P is annotated as a pseudogene in humans, meaning that it does not produce a functional protein product due to disabling mutations or truncations in its gene sequence[3][5][9]. As such, it has no established biological activity, functional interactions, or relevance as a therapeutic or diagnostic target. While V1R family members are functionally significant in some species, large portions of this family are non-functional (as pseudogenes) in humans, reflecting evolutionary loss of these chemosensory capabilities[6].
