Vomeronasal 1 receptor 66 pseudogene (VN1R66P) is a human pseudogene belonging to the vomeronasal 1 receptor (V1R) family. Vomeronasal receptors are G protein-coupled receptors linked to pheromone detection in many mammals; however, in humans, the vast majority of vomeronasal receptor genes, including VN1R66P, are classified as pseudogenes and are believed to be non-functional. These receptors, when functional in other species, mediate social and sexual behaviors in response to pheromones detected in the vomeronasal organ. In humans, the vomeronasal organ is generally inactive or vestigial, and corresponding receptor genes do not form active proteins. There are no reported roles for VN1R66P in disease, drug action, or as a biomarker.
