The vomeronasal 1 receptor 71 pseudogene (VN1R71P) is a human genomic locus classified as a pseudogene, homologous to the vomeronasal 1 receptor family, which comprises G protein-coupled receptors involved in pheromone detection in many animals. In humans, this locus does not encode a functional protein due to one or more inactivating mutations. As a pseudogene, it does not have a known biological function, is not targeted by drugs, and has no established roles in human physiology or disease. It is used in research largely as a reference marker for ancestral chemosensory receptor gene families that have lost function during human evolution[3][5][7].
