In humans, the VN1R76P gene is classified as a pseudogene—meaning it is a nonfunctional remnant of a once-active gene, characterized by mutations that prevent the production of a functional receptor protein[1][3][9]. The vomeronasal receptor gene family in primates has undergone extensive pseudogenization, reflecting evolutionary loss of function associated with a reduced role for vomeronasal chemosensation[7]. VN1R76P does not play a known role in human disease, drug interaction, or cellular signaling. There is no evidence supporting its use as a biomarker or therapeutic target. Its identification is mainly relevant for genetic and evolutionary studies rather than clinical or pharmacological applications[7][9].
