Vomeronasal 1 receptor 8 pseudogene (VN1R8P)

Target
VN1R8P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, G protein-coupled receptor family (ancestral membership; does not produce a functional GPCR)
01

Overview

Vomeronasal 1 receptor 8 pseudogene (VN1R8P) is a human processed pseudogene belonging to the vomeronasal 1 receptor family, located on chromosome 21q11.2. The vomeronasal receptor genes typically encode G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) thought to bind pheromones in mammals; however, VN1R8P does not encode a functional protein and lacks biological or clinical relevance in humans. These pseudogenes represent remnants of the vomeronasal sensory repertoire. VN1R8P is sometimes referred to by the alias ORLP2. Its absence of function means it is neither a therapeutic target nor a biomarker, and no drugs or mechanisms of action are associated with it.
