Target

Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Olfactory receptor pseudogene

Overview

The vomeronasal 1 receptor 85 pseudogene (VN1R85P) is classified as an unprocessed pseudogene located on human chromosome 19 (19p12)[1][3][5][7][8][9]. As a pseudogene, VN1R85P does not encode a functional protein and is not believed to be involved in physiological or pathological processes as an active receptor or enzyme. The gene is considered part of the vomeronasal receptor family, which in other species participates in pheromone detection, but the VN1R85P locus in humans is nonfunctional[1][3][5][7][8][9]. There is no evidence that VN1R85P is associated with disease, targeted by any drug, or used as a biomarker. Its molecular classification reflects its relationship to the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily due to gene homology, but as a pseudogene, it lacks function and therapeutic interest[8][9]. No information indicates confusion, misspelling, or otherwise incorrect naming.
