Vomeronasal 1 receptor 96 pseudogene (VN1R96P) is classified as a human pseudogene within the large vomeronasal type-1 receptor family, part of the greater group of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) expressed in the vomeronasal organ of many mammals. While functional vomeronasal receptors in other species are implicated in pheromone detection and social/sexual behaviors, the VN1R96P gene contains disabling mutations and does not encode a functional receptor protein in humans. There are no known drugs, biological functions, or disease associations for VN1R96P, and it is not considered a therapeutic target[2][5][9]. This entry is included in gene and genome browsers due to its conserved sequence homology, but as a pseudogene, it does not contribute to receptor signaling or classical GPCR-related processes in humans[5][2][9].
