Vomeronasal type-1 receptor 1 (VN1R1) is a seven-transmembrane G protein-coupled receptor encoded by the *VN1R1* gene in humans. It is thought to act as a pheromone receptor, expressed primarily in vomeronasal sensory neurons and to a lesser extent in other tissues such as the olfactory mucosa, brain, lung, and kidney[1]. VN1R1 is involved in the detection of volatile chemical cues and may influence social and sexual behaviors. In humans, the vomeronasal organ (VNO) is vestigial, and the functional significance of VN1R1 remains partially speculative, with evidence for extra-olfactory neuronal activation by certain ligands such as Hedione. VN1R1 is not known to be targeted clinically for disease therapy or to be involved in major pathophysiological processes[1][2][4].
As a GPCR, activation leads to intracellular signaling via G proteins, primarily in response to pheromone-like molecules or specific volatiles such as Hedione
