Vomeronasal type-1 receptor 106 pseudogene (VN1R106P, FKSG41) is a member of the vomeronasal type-1 receptor family in humans but is classified as a pseudogene. Vomeronasal receptors (V1Rs) are G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) implicated in pheromone detection in most mammals. In humans, most V1R genes, including VN1R106P, are pseudogenized and believed to be nonfunctional, lacking expression or protein-coding capability. Therefore, VN1R106P is not considered a therapeutic target, and there are no known drugs or established disease associations for this pseudogene. The vomeronasal receptor system is mostly nonfunctional in humans due to pseudogenization, particularly in the Catarrhini (Old World monkeys and apes, including humans), where the vomeronasal organ and its associated signaling functions have largely regressed. VN1R106P is specifically listed as a pseudogene and not as a functional receptor in genomic and product databases, with no evidence of a coding protein or physiological function in humans. The broader V1R family is part of the GPCR "chemosensory" superfamily involved in pheromone signaling in other mammals, but in humans, most members are pseudogenes with no actionable or therapeutic significance. No interacting drugs, biomarkers, or disease associations are described for VN1R106P, as is typical for nonfunctional pseudogenes. While related genes in other species serve sensory/behavioral functions (pheromone detection), this is not the case for human pseudogenes of the family.
