VPS51 pseudogene 17 (VPS51P17) is a pseudogene, a noncoding genomic element homologous to VPS51, which is a protein-coding gene involved in intracellular transport as part of the GARP and EARP complexes. Pseudogenes such as VPS51P17 do not produce functional proteins and are generally not considered therapeutic targets. While some pseudogenes may influence disease or genetic regulation, there is currently no evidence for functional, disease, or therapeutic relevance of VPS51P17[3][5]. Note: This entry is often confused with the functional VPS51 gene, but only VPS51—not VPS51P17—is protein-coding and a subject of disease and mechanistic studies[1][2][4].
