VPS51 pseudogene 6 (VPS51P6) is a human pseudogene related in sequence to the *VPS51* gene (VPS51 subunit of GARP complex), but does not code for a functional protein. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but typically have lost their gene expression potential or protein-coding ability through mutation. VPS51P6 has not been characterized as having any biological, pathological, or therapeutic relevance, and is not considered a direct target in drug discovery or a biomarker for disease[3]. The *VPS51* gene (not the pseudogene) encodes a recognized protein involved in intracellular vesicular trafficking and autophagy[1][2]; however, *VPS51P6* does not share these functions. The importance of pseudogenes in general has been explored in the literature, particularly their potential as microRNA “sponges” in a few cases, but there is no evidence such a role applies to VPS51P6[3].
