WARS2 antisense RNA 1 (WARS2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed in the antisense orientation at the WARS2 gene locus. It has been implicated in the regulation of gene expression at both the transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels, typically by forming duplexes with the sense mRNA or influencing chromatin structure. In hepatocellular carcinoma, WARS2-AS1 is upregulated in tumor tissues, and its knockdown increases sensitivity of cancer cells to cuproptosis induced by elesclomol, highlighting its role as a potential therapeutic target and biomarker for prognosis. Like other antisense lncRNAs, the functional effects of WARS2-AS1 may extend to modulation of cell death pathways and regulation of multiple cancer-relevant processes.
