WAS protein family homolog 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000278635) is a non-coding genomic region homologous to the WASP protein family and annotated as a pseudogene in the human genome. Pseudogenes are DNA segments that resemble known genes but have accumulated mutations (such as premature stop codons, frameshifts, or truncations) that preclude them from encoding functional proteins[2][4][6]. The WASP protein family plays a role in actin cytoskeleton dynamics via the Arp2/3 complex, but only the protein-coding members of the family, such as WASH complex subunit 1 (WASHC1), are involved in such functions[1][3][5]. This pseudogene does not produce a functional protein and does not serve as a molecular target for therapy, diagnostic, or pathogenesis research. In the context of human genetics, many WASP family pseudogenes arose from segmental duplication and rearrangement events and do not have biological or clinical relevance[1][2][4][6].
