Overview

WASHC5 antisense RNA 1 (WASHC5-AS1), also known as KIAA0196-AS1, is a long non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 8 (chr8:125040684-125044989, hg38)[1][4]. It is transcribed in the antisense direction relative to the protein-coding WASHC5 (KIAA0196) gene, which encodes the protein strumpellin, a WASH complex component involved in actin nucleation and implicated in hereditary spastic paraplegia[1][4]. However, WASHC5-AS1 itself is classified as non-protein-coding, and there are no established direct cellular, molecular, or pathological roles ascribed to this antisense RNA in the literature to date[1][4].
