Target intelligence / Profile preview

Water metabolism dysregulation

01

Overview

Water metabolism dysregulation refers to abnormalities in the regulation of body water balance, characterized by improper handling of water intake, retention, or loss. This state results from disruptions in hormonal signaling (notably antidiuretic hormone/vasopressin), renal function, or osmotic balance. While not a molecular target itself, this concept underpins a variety of metabolic, renal, and endocrine disorders. Biomarkers such as plasma and serum water T2 assessed by NMR have been proposed for early detection of metabolic dysregulation in clinical settings[1]. The underlying regulators or targets in water metabolism include a range of receptors, channels, and hormones, but “water metabolism dysregulation” is not itself a discrete, actionable target.
