Wavefront shaping anterior IOL technology refers to a novel optical design principle used in certain non-diffractive extended depth of focus (EDoF) intraocular lenses (IOLs) for cataract surgery. Instead of splitting light into multiple focal points (as in diffractive or multifocal IOLs), wavefront-shaping technology modifies the travel distance and curvature of light entering the eye through two subtle, smooth surface transitions on the anterior lens surface. This produces a continuous extended focal range, allowing patients to achieve clear vision from distance to near with a low incidence of visual disturbances like halos and glare. Examples of IOLs using this technology include the AcrySof IQ Vivity and Clareon Vivity IOLs (Alcon).
