WD repeat-containing protein 36 is a member of the WD repeat protein family, characterized by WD repeat motifs that facilitate the assembly of multiprotein complexes[1][3]. WDR36 is a component of the small subunit processome, participating in the nucleolar processing of SSU 18S rRNA, which is essential for the formation of the small ribosomal subunit[3][9]. It is also involved in T-cell activation and is highly co-regulated with interleukin-2 (IL2)[9]. The protein is expressed ubiquitously, including in the nucleolus and cytoplasm[4]. Mutations in the WDR36 gene have been linked to adult-onset primary open-angle glaucoma and modulation of intraocular pressure[1][3]. While WDR36 is involved in key cellular processes such as cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and gene regulation, it is **not considered a typical therapeutic target** such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter[1][3][9]. There are currently no known drugs that specifically target WDR36, nor established mechanisms of action, biomarkers, or notable therapeutic safety concerns related to this protein.
