WD repeat-containing protein 53 (WDR53) is a nuclear protein encoded by the WDR53 gene located on chromosome 3q29 in humans. It contains seven WD40 repeat domains that typically mediate protein–protein interactions, often forming a beta-propeller structure. Although the exact biological function of WDR53 remains unknown, similar proteins in its family are implicated in processes such as signal transduction, transcription regulation, and apoptosis. WDR53 is highly expressed in the testes and shows minimal expression in other tissues. There is evidence suggesting interactions with proteins such as WDR5 and MCPH1. Disease associations for the gene include chromosome 3q29 microdeletion syndrome and immunodeficiency 46. No drugs or biomarkers have been reported for this protein, and it is not recognized as a therapeutic target at present[1][2][3][5][7][8][9].
