WD repeat-containing protein 90 (WDR90) is a large, evolutionarily conserved human protein encoded by the WDR90 gene on chromosome 16p13.3. The protein is composed of 1,750 amino acids and is characterized by multiple WD40 repeat domains, which adopt a beta propeller structure. WDR90 is a microtubule-binding protein involved in centriole elongation and cilium assembly, and is required for maintaining centriole integrity and stability. The precise biological function of WDR90 is not fully understood, but WD40 domain-containing family members commonly serve as scaffolds for the assembly of protein complexes and play roles in signal transduction, cell cycle progression, transcriptional regulation, vesicular transport, autophagy, and apoptosis. Expression of WDR90 is low but broadly distributed with some enrichment in lymph nodes and thymus, and elevated levels during early developmental stages. Mutations or dysregulation in WD-repeat proteins, including WDR90, have been associated with various genetic diseases and cancers, but no direct drug interactions or roles as a therapeutic target have been established to date[1][3][4][5][7].
