WD repeat domain 49 (WDR49)

Target
WDR49
Molecular classification
WD repeat protein family, WD40 domain-containing protein, Scaffold/adaptor protein
01

Overview

WD repeat domain 49 is a protein encoded by the WDR49 gene. It contains nine WD40 repeats, which are structural motifs of roughly 40 amino acids that typically end with a tryptophan-aspartic acid (WD) dipeptide. Proteins with WD40 domains are structurally characterized by forming beta-propeller folds that serve as platforms for reversible multi-protein complex assembly, rather than catalytic activity. WDR49 is associated with the nexin-dynein regulatory complex, important for ciliary and flagellar motility, and may act as an inner dynein arm hub or linkage. Members of the WD repeat protein family are implicated in diverse cellular processes such as signal transduction, gene regulation, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis, largely via scaffolding functions that organize and coordinate protein interactions. There is some indication of disease association with prostate cancer, but the functional impact of WDR49 in human disease is not well characterized. There are no known direct drugs, therapeutic mechanisms, or biomarker roles currently established for WDR49.
