WD repeat domain 55 (WDR55) is a nucleolar WD repeat-containing protein that modulates rRNA synthesis and is essential for cellular and organismal development. It contains seven WD repeats and localizes to both the nucleus and cytoplasm. WDR55 participates in the assembly or function of CUL4-DDB1 ubiquitin E3 ligase complexes, acting as a substrate recruiter in plants and possibly in animals. Loss-of-function mutations in WDR55 lead to embryonic death and defects in gametogenesis and organ development in model organisms. While the broader WD repeat family is associated with functions such as signal transduction, cell cycle regulation, and apoptosis, WDR55's specific role centers on rRNA processing, cell cycle progression, and development. Currently, WDR55 is not a known therapeutic target or biomarker in clinical practice[1][2][3][4][5].
