WDR59

Other (WD-repeat containing protein), Signaling adaptor (component of GATOR2 complex)
01

Overview

WD repeat domain 59 (WDR59) is a protein-coding gene and a component of the GATOR2 complex, which regulates the mTORC1 signaling pathway in response to amino acid availability. WDR59 acts as a signaling adaptor, enabling cellular responses to nutrient status and promoting cell growth via mTORC1 activation when amino acids are abundant. Functionally, WDR59 has tissue- and context-dependent roles, either promoting or inhibiting mTORC1 activity by modulating the interaction between the GATOR2 and GATOR1 complexes. Mutations or alterations in WDR59 have been implicated in diseases such as epilepsy and may contribute to tumorigenesis due to its role in mTOR signaling regulation
