Overview

WD repeat domain 75 (WDR75) is a protein containing a WD40 repeat domain, part of a large protein family known for their role as scaffolds for multiprotein complexes. WDR75 is a ribosome biogenesis factor and a component of the small subunit (SSU) processome, which participates in the nucleolar processing of precursor 18S ribosomal RNA and is required for optimal ribosomal RNA transcription by RNA polymerase I. It is localized to the nucleolus and is predicted to enable RNA binding and facilitate steps in small ribosomal subunit assembly. While WD40 domain-containing proteins are a major focus in disease research and some are considered therapeutic targets, there is currently no evidence that WDR75 itself is therapeutically targeted or directly implicated in human disease. The structural class (WD40 repeat) is noteworthy, as similar proteins are being explored for druggability due to their protein–protein interaction surfaces and regulatory roles in diverse cellular pathways[2][3][4][5][6].
