WDR81 antisense RNA 1 (WDR81-AS1, also lnc-TLCD2-1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the WDR81 protein coding gene. It is formally classified as an "antisense RNA" and belongs to the family of long non-coding RNAs, which are defined by transcripts >200 nucleotides with no protein-coding capacity[4]. The biological role of WDR81-AS1 has not been clearly delineated, but, by analogy to other antisense lncRNAs, it may participate in the regulation of neighboring gene expression, chromatin structure, or epigenetic modification[3][4]. There is currently no evidence of WDR81-AS1 as a direct therapeutic target, disease biomarker, or drug interaction partner. Further functional and mechanistic studies would be needed to establish any disease involvement, druggability, or clinical relevance.
