Overview

WDR86 antisense RNA 1 (WDR86-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 7, transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the WDR86 gene[1][3]. It does not encode a protein but may regulate the expression of its sense counterpart gene (WDR86) through mechanisms such as transcriptional interference and chromatin modification typical of natural antisense transcripts (NATs)[2][4]. WDR86-AS1 has been cataloged in several genomic databases (HGNC, Ensembl, NCBI), and, like other antisense lncRNAs, may play roles in gene expression modulation in health and disease; however, its specific physiological or pathological roles remain poorly characterized. Diseases linked with WDR86-AS1 in gene databases include forms of hypophosphatasia, though these are informatic associations and direct mechanistic links are not established[3].
