WIZ (Widely Interspaced Zinc Finger-containing protein), also known as ZNF803, is a zinc finger protein that plays key roles in chromatin organization, gene repression, and transcriptional regulation. It recruits the G9a/GLP histone methyltransferase complex to specific genomic loci, mediating H3K9 methylation and gene repression. WIZ also forms complexes with cohesin and CTCF proteins at enhancers, promoters, insulators, and anchors of DNA loops, helping define chromosome architecture. Mutations or dysregulation of WIZ have been linked to Giant Axonal Neuropathy type II and Bladder Exstrophy.
